Riverdale Plaza
Adaptive Green played a pivotal role as the landscape consultant and builder for a significant renovation of The Whitehall’s existing plaza pool deck. This $6.5 million project involved implementing an intensive green roof with nearly a thousand yards of engineered media and permeable pavement encasing the green roof areas and other rooftop amenities. The Whitehall, Riverdale’s most iconic luxury cooperative apartment residence, boasts a brand new, actively landscaped Green Roof that is a first-of-its-kind amenity in The Bronx and one of the largest green roofs on any residential building in the New York area. Spanning over 30,000 square feet on The Whitehall Health Club’s pool level, this Green Roof seamlessly integrates passive green spaces with active amenities for residents and club members. It features a sundeck, children’s playground, fire pit, open gathering spots, and mood-lit walking paths adorned with native trees, shrubs, grasses, and wildflowers set amid contemplative benches and gazebos. The communal garden, covering two-thirds of an acre, is designed to resemble a small park more than a standard terrace, complete with a walking path lined with native plants.
