United Nations Headquarters

Ahead of the 2019 Climate Action Summit, Adaptive Green collaborated with the United Nations to build an extensive 11,000 square feet green roof in honor of Mahatma Gandhi’s 100 birthday. Further, the UN’s actions bring further attention to the NYC Green New Deal, which requires green roofs, solar, or wind turbines on all new developments both residential or commercial.

The Ghandi Garden and Solar Park project was donated by the UN member-state India. Adaptive Green served as the Prime Contractor, Designer, and Builder. The system embodied a high-tech waterproofing membrane and included automatic leak detection sensors. The structure boasts of solar panels and various plants capable of cooling the ambient air by up to 6 degrees.

The roof’s energy and stormwater features will not only help cool the ambient air, It retains approximately 207,000 gallons of water each year. The Financial Times and other local news outlets wrote about the positive impact that this project is going to have on the community.
