Adaptive Green was proud to serve as the green roofer for one of the newest beacons of sustainability in Bethesda, Maryland: Avocet Towers, a LEED Platinum building.

The project features an intensive green roof on four levels (up to the twentieth story), two intensive stormwater bioretention wells, permeable pavement, and carpentry elements.  Together the systems were designed and implemented to manage nearly all the building stormwater runoff.

At One Prospect Park West, we’ve had the opportunity to explore intensive and extensive landscaping, planting of over 50 specimen trees, inclusive of an apple orchard, hardscape, custom fiberglass, and reclaimed timber planters, and the craftsmanship of built-in, gas-fired grills.

One of our more innovative and creative projects, the Department of Environmental Protection and Dormitory Authority, asked us to transform a middle school’s underutilized parking lot into a bioretention basin or rain garden that manages 122,000 gallons of stormwater per rainfall event.

We utilized thousands of cubic yards of engineered bioretention media and stone with over a thousand perennials, shrubs, trees, and an urban farming section for the students to help manage and grow.  The agencies unveiled this new type of project in 2022, hoping to create additional stormwater management capacity in flood-prone areas by removing underutilized parking lots.

Adaptive Green was hired to implement the design validation of Toll Brothers City Living’s latest luxury condominiums, 91 Leonard and 77 Charlton.  We implemented serval green infrastructure details such as intensive and extensive green roofs, interior fern gardens, permeable pavement, three-ton granite boulders, custom metal planters, 20-foot-high trellis, FCS-certified Ipe decking and planters, specimen plantings of three-to six-inch caliper trees.

Adaptive Green began consulting with the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center Expansion builders (Lendlease Turner JV) in 2018.

With a $1.5 billion budget for the Expansion, Adaptive Green implemented a unique combination of green infrastructure leveraging the American hydrotech Intensive Garden Roof Assembly from an operational orchard, urban farm, meadow, permeable pavement, and greywater recycling irrigation systems.  Upon completion, the Javits Center is the third-largest green roof in America and boasts the country’s most significant state-funded urban rooftop farm.

Adaptive Green performed the work in accordance with the Project Labor Agreement and New York State’s Minority Business Enterprise requirements.

Adaptive Green was recruited as the landscape designer and builder for the Chrysler Building’s redevelopment of the Danish Consulate’s 11th-floor terrace. The terrace was transformed with an extensive modular green roof system, modular and portable greens walls to create privacy for events, and new native shrubs and vines.
